OUR ILLUSTRIOUS SON, CHICO EJIRO IS GONE.

The Ejiro family of Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, wish to formally announce the untimely passing to eternity of their most cherished son, Chico Ejiro on Christmas day, December 25, 2020. His demise followed complications arising from high blood pressure for which he had been treated . He had returned delightfully to the only business he was so passionate  about and had concluded his movie shoot barely two days before Christmas. His painful death was a tragic drama that took less than 10 minutes and there was silence. 

Chico as he was widely known  both locally and internationally,  was a distinguished creative industry entrepreneur, a film and television Director/Producer, a talent investor and cineaste. He was reputed to have directed over 95 movies , a fit often hailed as unprecedented in Nigeria's motion picture industry known as Nollywood.  It was for his pacy and innovative directorial production style at the nascent stage of Nollywood that he was nicknamed Mr Prolific.

Beyond his core industry practice, Chico was known for his humane spirit, a deeply kind nature , his uncommon humility and amiable aura that inspired the wide partnerships he built and network of friends within and outside of the creative industry.

His company, Grand Touch Pictures,  was known to have partnered with over 30 different movie organisations for television, film and reality TV show productions. 

Importantly, Chico was a family man. He was totally committed to the cause of the welfare and happiness of his family. No matter where he was , whatever meeting, no matter how important the occasion,  everything stopped at the call of his family. His devotion to his wife, children and indeed sibblings was simply exemplary. He was    passionately attached and ever grateful  to his elder brother and mentor , Zeb Ejiro, OON, who inspired his career switch to the motion picture industry even though he read Agriculture at the university.

Chico in the last six years had devoted his entire life and resources to assure the health and survival of his youngest child who was diagnosed with cancer related ailments while still a toddler. His devoted wife, Joy Ejiro , has since been in the US to attend to their son and had returned with him temporarily for the yuletide holiday after being away for two years .

The funeral for this scion of Isoko nation, South-South region and indeed Delta state has been fixed for Saturday,  February 20, 2021.

He is survived by wife, children,  sibblings, uncles and cousins.

For the eighty-sixth time in their ninety-one-year history, the Academy Awards failed to nominate a single female director in 2019. This most recent awards snub is part of a bigger problem in the film industry. Women are dramatically underrepresented as directors, accounting for 10.6 percent of directors in 2019, according to the Inclusion Initiative. While that’s an increase of 7.9 percent from what it was in 2007, it’s still a disappointing ratio of 20:1 male to female directors over the past thirteen years. When we look at the ratio of white male to female POC directors, it jumps to a shocking 92:1. 

Things are only slightly better in film production, where women are listed as producers on just 18 percent of the top 300 movies from 2015 to 2018. (Only 1.6 percent of those were women of color.)

Connected to womens’ underrepresentation is the horrifying, ongoing abuse and harassment they’ve suffered at the hands of their male colleagues. More than a hundred years ago, the safe haven and social club Hollywood Studio Club opened to protect women working in film from rampant sexual abuse by their male colleagues. How far have we really come from those days? The revelations of Harvey Weinstein’s victims and the #MeToo movement show that sexual harassment is still a major industry issue.

I will try as much as possible to be honest here.

From here in Nigeria, we think the Chinese are smart (intellectually and Trick wise).

They have given loans to most African countries to build railway lines, which was executed by Chinese owned companies . In other words they gave Africa some money, took it back , and now Africa owes them some money. This is not illegal, and by doing that the Chinese have not broken any law. It only shows how smart they are when it comes to making deals. You know sometimes smart people get the better of others in deals.

From here we think the Chinese love cheap labour. We also think they are humble . They always buy from the cheapest source which shows how prudent they are when it comes to money. They are risk takers and they easily integrate into their new environment( I don’t know if it is a buisness strategy) I have seen chinese transact buisness in the most dangerous regions where even some Nigerians might feel reluctant to go.

Finally we also think that the Chinese intentionally manufacture poor quality products which are nevertheless cheap just so you can come back again to patronise them once more.

Lawrence Okolie is the next undisputed boxer

Cruiserweight Lawrence Okolie made quick work of Nikodem Jezewski, whom he floored three times in a second-round TKO win at The SSE Arena in London on Saturday.

For Okolie, who now waits for a world title shot, this was an inconvenient fight he just had to deal with. Jezewski (19-1-1, 11 KOs) was a last-minute replacement after Okolie's first world title attempt against Krzysztof Glowacki was called off. But Okolie coped with the late change in his opponent with aplomb.

"I will be unified world champion in 2021," Okolie, from London, said after the fight.

Former world titlist Glowacki tested positive for COVID-19, and his fellow Polish fighter Jezewski stepped in on a week's notice, but without the vacant WBO cruiserweight world title on the line.

Okolie (15-0, 13 KOs), 27, who is managed by unified heavyweight titlist Anthony Joshua, showed he has heavyweight power. Okolie floored Jezewski twice in the first round, first with a body shot, then wobbling Jezewski with a straight right before dropping him again.

Okolie predictably dropped Jezewski again in the second round, with a right hand straight to the jaw, and the fight was stopped.

"Glowacki, [WBC champion Ilunga] Makabu, [Mairis] Breidis, Okolie will go through the whole cruiserweight division before going to heavyweight," Matchroom's Eddie Hearn, who promotes Okolie, said.

Okolie is ranked No. 2 with the WBO governing body, his highest ranking among the four bodies, and has yet to fight for a world title.

Spain Evicts Francisco Franco's Heirs From Late Dictator's Summer Palace

It has been more than eight decades since Spain's fascist dictator, Gen. Francisco Franco, took possession of the Pazo de Meirás during the civil war that brought him to power.

Since then, the palace in the northwest region of Galicia has served as an opulent summer retreat — first for the dictator himself, then for his family after Franco's death roughly 45 years ago.

Not anymore.

On Thursday, the Spanish government formally seized the palace from Franco's heirs in a simple ceremony that capped a hard-fought legal struggle to expropriate the property.

The moment was a symbolic triumph for Spain's left-wing government — which won possession of the palace in a court ruling in September, and has repeatedly pushed to remove or reclaim other memorials that glorify the dictator's nearly four-decade reign.

The transfer of ownership Thursday is a credit to "the thousands and thousands of men and women from Galicia and the rest of Spain who have tried to make this place the birthright of all," Deputy Prime Minister Carmen Calvo said in a statement. "This was a laudable objective, which dignifies Spanish democracy, which dignifies us all and which has been pushed by the activism of many people."

Spain Moves Dictator Francisco Franco's Remains After Months Of Legal Battles

Calvo said the government plans to repurpose the palace to educate the public about the dark side of Franco's reign and celebrate the legacy of Emilia Pardo Bazán, the prolific writer whose family previously owned the manor.

Franco's supporters bought the palace and donated it to him in 1938, and his heirs say Franco made a formal 1941 purchase of the property. But in September — ruling in a case brought by the Spanish government in 2019 — Judge Marta Canales found the 1941 sale to be fraudulent and asserted that the palace was not given to Franco, specifically, but rather to the Spanish head of state.

Franco's heirs lost a subsequent appeal of the ruling. They handed over the keys to the manor on Wednesday, one day before the court-ordered deadline.

"Today the circus is celebrated with its clowns," the dictator's grandson, also named Francisco Franco, said in a statement translated by Politico. He added: "We are not going to lend ourselves to this circus."

The eviction at the Pazo de Meirás did not satisfy the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory, however. The group, which dedicates itself to preserving the memory of Franco's human rights abuses, said Wednesday that the return of the palace "cannot end without a judicial process against those who illegally occupied it and filled it with the fruit of a huge plunder of the state's patrimony."

There is disagreement about how many people fell victim to Franco's repressive regime, though it is widely believed that more than 100,000 people were killed or disappeared during his absolute rule in Spain from the end of its bloody civil war in 1939 until his death in 1975. Yet his legacy remains the subject of significant controversy in the country, particularly in recent years.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has made it a central campaign promise to reevaluate the dictator's memory and how it's marked in official monuments. Last year, after a long, bitter legal battle that reached the country's Supreme Court, the government exhumed Franco's remains from the massive mausoleum northwest of Madrid constructed as his memorial.
