When you talk of good command of the English language and body language, Eliel comes to mind. His total theatre background informs his artistry. Unlike many others, Eliel plays different roles differently. Check him out as Mr. Deputy in the popular TV series-”The Johnsons”, or as Chief Iyase in the epic movie-”Invasion 1897”, or as Papa Akpors, the down-to-earth comic character in “Akpors And Company”, or as the old school Uncle in the TV series- “The Spider”, or as Police Officer or Doctor in earlier Nollywood movies!
Eliel Otote A. is a Music, Theatre and Film Scholar and Practitioner; an Alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Royal Schools of Music, London, Victor Uwaifo Academy of Music, Television And Theatre Arts, Benin and Colorado Film School, Denver, USA.
He has been an active theatre Practitioner in the last four decades, and a pioneer Actor, Scriptwriter and Director in Nollywood. Besides numerous movies to his credit such as VIRGIN PROSTITUTE,TWO GOOD FRIENDS, RAZOR BLADE, AZIBA, ICHOKU EXPRESS, DEFENCE OF AMANDATE-THE OSHOMHOLE`S STORY, ESAMA, ALAMA etc, Eliel has directed and acted in the following plays: THE LION AND THE JEWEL by Wole Soyinka, OVONRAMENOGBAISI, KURUNMI by Ola Rotimi, THE DIVORCE, KIRIJI WAR by Wale Ogunyemi,OBASEKI, IDIA by Pedro Agbonifo Obaseki, LOST FINGERS by Meki Nzewi, PRINCESS ESILOKUN by Eni Jones etc.
He has imparted immensely on students of arts as a guest Instructor in many institutions-home and abroad, among which are Frederiksberg Technical College, Scandinavisk Theatre School, Denmark, Lagos State University, Ogun State Arts Council, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, PEFTI Film Institute, Arts Workshop, Yabatech Film Academy, Lagos, MagicBrush Film School, Port Harcourt etc
Eliel Otote A is an ex-official of the Directors Guild of Nigeria [DGN], and a member of the Screenwriters Guild of Nigeria, [SWGN] and the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners [NANTAP]. He is an Author, Culture Consultant and Researcher.
